THE MIKLAT CARE TEAM



Robert Fitzpatrick



Program Manager



Robert Fitzpatrick is a dedicated and purpose driven man who has devoted his life to helping others free themselves from the chains of addiction. His dedication to his job and passion for helping others is testimony to his faith. Robert is the general manager of Miklat Recovery, running the day to day operations, overseeing the staff and residents, and providing the best possible care for the men coming through the program.



Stewert Barnes



Indigenous Cultural Lead



With a strong foundation in his Klahoose and Homalco heritage, Stewert brings a holistic approach to his role at Miklat. Working in fish hatcheries, forestry, and as a grizzly bear guide has equipped him with a deep respect for the natural world. Since 2020, he has dedicated himself to supporting clients in their recovery journeys, finding immense satisfaction in witnessing their growth and success.



Jay Austin



Client Care Worker



A devoted family man and seasoned mechanic, Jay Austin found his true calling in helping others overcome addiction. After his own journey to recovery, he earned his Community Service Worker and Addictions diplomas. Now, as a dedicated support at Miklat, Jay is passionate about empowering men to rebuild their lives. His belief in the power of human connection drives him to help others "Stand Tall and LIVE STRONG."



Josh Bennett



Client Care Worker



A Powell River native, Josh Bennett possesses a unique blend of perseverance and determination. His ability to overcome adversity, including homelessness and addiction, through successful completion of a 90-day treatment program at Miklat, is a testament to his character.



Randy Muzyka



Client Care Worker



Randy is a compassionate and experienced recovery support worker. Having overcome personal challenges, he found healing and purpose in Powell River. His journey from client to caregiver is a testament to his resilience and commitment to helping others. Randy is passionate about sharing his experience, strength, and hope with those embarking on their own recovery journeys.

THE COUNSELLING TEAM



Nina Peers



Addiction Counsellor



Nina Peers graduated from McMasters University in 2010 and has been a C.C.A.C since 2016. She has worked in a First Nations health care setting for 10 years providing client services in addiction, group facilitation & workshops, family support, mental health and trauma informed practice counselling.  Her primary role at Miklat is counselling in mental health and substance use and case management.



Tricia McTaggart, RCC



Psychotherapist



Tricia is a Registered Clinical Counsellor who believes in the power of establishing a strong therapeutic relationship with clients.  Working from a trauma informed lense, she incorporates logotherapy, which encourages clients to focus on finding meaning and purpose in their future. Tricia's work is grounded in the belief that every person has incredible value and worth.​



Sarah Fitzgibbon, BFA, DKATI



Art Therapist



Sarah is a certified art therapist who offers therapy that is dignity-driven, trauma-informed, and person-centred. This approach involves following the lead of the individual she is supporting and believing in each person's ability for self-direction. Everyone has the knowledge of what to explore, whom to confide in, and how to progress towards personal growth, Sarah collaborates with you throughout your unique journey, providing support in a way that suits you best. She draws on the creative process, attachment theory, developmental theories, response-based practice and internal family systems approaches to guide our work together.



Matthew Staley



Life Skills Coach



Matthew is a retired member of the Canadian Forces, with over 2 decades of service and multiple deployments at home and abroad.  Matt was injured in Afghanistan and has had to heal with not just his physical injuries, but severe PTSD and alcohol addiction.  Matt helps guide the clients using Solutions Focused Therapy, on a “Life Envisioned” program, which he has created using his experience and education in addiction and trauma informed care.



Scott Emoory-Moore



Social Worker



Scott is deeply familiar with and attuned to the many heavy issues that face individuals living with active substance use disorders. His insight into the process of working towards, achieving and maintaining freedom from addiction reflects his lived experience and his own fervent commitment to recovery. As the holder of a Social Support Worker Diploma from Algonquin College, Scott is sensitive to the challenges of diverse populations, and skilled in holding space for heartfelt, honest sharing, mutual vulnerability, encouragement and ongoing social support.
